Abstract

CHANGES OF HYDRODYNAMIC CONDITIONS IN THE COMPLEX OF SUB-QUATERNARY STRATA IN THE LUBIN-GŁOGÓW COPPER-BEARING AREA

Summary
The processes of rock massif drainage due to copper mining, developing in the Lubin-Głogów copper-deposit area since 1965, resulted in changes in hydrodynamic conditions. The changes affected aquifer related to Zechstein W-1 limestones and dolomites, directly drained by mining works, and that of sub-coal Tertiary strata, indirectly drained because of the existence of hydraulic contacts.
A vast depressional cone originated in the aquifer of Zechstein W-1 carbonates. The cone is asymmetric in outline, elongated parallel to a major dislocation zone in the deposit area and the field affected by mining works. The lowering of piezometric surface is most advanced in the latter area, where it descends down to the base of the aquifer, i.e. 600 to 800 m downwards. The cone is about 40 km wide along its longer axis and from 9 to 14 km along the shorter.
The lowering of piezometer surface is also recorded in the case of the aquifer of sub-coal Tertiary strata. The piezometer data show that it is up to 117 m at the most. The zone of most advanced lowering in that aquifer coincides with area of tectonic and sedimentary contacts between it and the aquifer of Zechstein W-1 carbonates. The depressional cone in the Tertiary aquifer exceeds the extent of piezometer network.
The aquifer of Zechstein W-1 carbonates is supplied with water from sub-coal Tertiary strata. The alimentary areas include Tertiary subcrops of Zechstein W-1 carbonates and those in contact with the subcrops by a network of faults and fissures.
