Abstract

FURTHER FINDINGS OF TONSTEIN IN THE COAL SEAM 610 IN THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN Summary New occurrences of tonstein have been found in the coal seam 610 in the Zabrze and Gliwice mines. The paper presents results of studies on mineral-chemical composition of these rocks. Tonstein from the Zabrze mine displays pseudomorphic structure and kaolinite-illite character of groundmass, and that from the Gliwice mine - compact structure or transitional from the compact to pseudomorphic and the presence of mixed-layer minerals of the I/M type. Silica released in the course of kaolinitization of biotite, feldspars and glass, was precipitated on accumulations of coal matter in the form of authigenic quartz. Adularia and natrolite were precipitated from alkali-rich solutions.
