Abstract

GEOCHEMICAL AND ECOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF PB-ENRICHED COALS FROM THE CHEŁM DEPOSIT

Summary
The paper presents results of chemical analyses of 219 coal samples from the Chełm deposit (Lublin Coal Basin). Content of lead in ashes was estimated by the method of atomic absorption spectrometry. Distribution of frequency of lead concentrations shows that the hulk of coals are characterized by low (160 ppm) concentrations of that element as recounted into ash, and the share of coals with increased (600 ppm) and high (1400 ppm) concentrations of lead is relatively low (below 10 %). The analysis of dependence of concentrations of lead in ash on ash content in coal showed that this element is genetically mainly related to inorganic matter (77 %), rather than to the organic (23 %).
The results of the studies showed that coals from the Chełm deposits are of minor importance as a hazard for the environment when used as energy raw materials.
