Abstract

A PRELIMINARY INTERPRETATION OF STRUCTURAL SURFACE OF THE TOP OF THE CARBONIFEROUS IN CENTRAL POLAND Summary The paper presents interpretation of morphology of top surface of the Carboniferous in central Poland, carried out on the basis of borehole data and, in an indirect way, by the superposition method, using seismic maps of sub-salt horizons and those of thickness distribution for Rotliegendes strata. It was assumed that tectonic elements traceable in seismic maps of sub-salt horizons reflect tectonics of the basement. The most mobile dislocation zones affect not only Permo-Mesozoic complex but also its basement. In the obtained map of the top of the Carboniferous there may be noted major, generally NW-SE oriented series of dislocations which bound elongate ridge-like elevations and surrounding vast depressions. The series of more or less strongly elevated blocks were markedly influencing sedimentation in the Rotliegendes basin. Moreover, they appear responsible for differences in thickness of the strata. The concept of morphological development of top surface of the Carboniferous, shown in the enclosed map, got further support in results of recently made deep drillings Budziszewice IG-1 and Byczyna 1.
