Badania dewońskiego szelfu węglanowego południowej Polski
Abstract
STUDIES ON THE DEVONIAN CARBONATE SHELF OF SOUTHERN POLAND Summary Epicontinental Devonian deposits in Poland may be ascribed to the extracratonic shelf of variable width ranging from 150 to 600 km (Fig. 2). This shallow marginal sea was divided into northern part, represented by the Devonian subcrops in the Koszalin-Chojnice -Toruń area, and southern part, embracing i.e. Lublin - Radom area, the Holy Cross Mts., as well as substrates of the Miechów synclinorium, the Upper Silesia Coal Basin and Western Carpathians. Between these two parts no Devonian has been reported until now. This evident absence is probably due to syn- and post- Devonian erosion controlled by the stable positive block in the crystalline basement of, the Warszawa area (Warszawa block). To the east, the shelf in question was bordered by the continental elevations of the East European Platform, generally build of Precambrian rocks. To the west and to the south shallow Devonian sea sloped into a deeper basin of external parts of the Variscan geosyncline. Future work concerning development of a Devonian shelf sedimentation should take into account a highly differentiated („mosaic") character and advancement of previous geological work, causing difficulties in stratigraphic correlation and in paleogeographic interpretations.Downloads
