Abstract

PERSPECTIVES OF SEARCH IN THE GORLICE OIL FIELD AREA Summary The paper presents results of detailed structural analysis of geological structure of surface and inner parts of the Gorlice structure and the hitherto obtained results of search for hydrocarbons. The data indicate the necessity to continue the search in the following directions: - penetration of the Istebna Beds and Lower Cretaceous in hinge parts of the deep Gorlice structure; - delineation of contour of oil field related to the structure-surrounding Krosno Beds, discovered by the drilling Gorlice 2; and - delineation of contour of gas field in the Krosno Beds from southern limb of the Libusza syncline, screened by overthrusted surface Gorlice-Lipinka structure, discovered by the drilling Gorlice 11. Further part of the paper presents the results of drillings made at western and eastern extensions of the surface Gorlice-Lipinka structure, that is in the Bystra area (beneath the Łużna "peninsula" of the Magura overthrust) and the Harklowa-Podlas region (beneath the overthrusted Harklowa "peninsula" of the above mentioned overthrust). Taking the data into account, the Author emphasizes the necessity to continue the search which may give significant economic results. The second of the paper deals with the necessity to explain inner structure and oil potential of western extension of the Dukla folds, i.e. Folusz and Skalnik folds. The search is justified by discovery of a new oil deposit (borehole Wola Cieklińska 7) west of Folusz, beneath the overthrusted Magura nappe and at depths markedly greater than the Folusz deposits. The presence of the new deposit has been recently confirmed by results of the drilling Wola Cieklińska 10. The above mentioned geological and borehole data were compared with those given by the drillings Bednarka 7, Wapienne l, and Bodaki 1 (located 3.2-4.4 km W and SW of the cross-section passing through the drilling Wola Cieklińska 7) to state that the above mentioned deposit is at least three times larger than the Folusz and the discovered oil resources may be estimated at 500,000 to 600,000 t.
