Abstract

POSSIBILITY OF GEOPHYSICAL FORECAST OF THE URANIUM MINERALIZATION ZONES IN THE TRIASSIC FORMATIONS IN THE PERIBALTIC SYNECLISE AREA

Summary
While exploiting out the shallow occuring uranium deposits, interests in exploration the deep occuring deposits increase. In case of covered uranium deposits with no surface geochemical anomalies connected with the U-238 isotope decay product, expensive and time consuming drilling operations are only hitherto existing mean to explore and reconaissence of such deposits.
In the mid-seventies Institute of Geology initiated geological prospecting in the middle part of the Peribaltic syneclise to explain possibilities of documentation of uranium deposits in the Triassic formations. As a result of the drilling operation the occurence of three uranium - bearing beds were stated, two of them were connecteq with sandstone - type mineralization and the third one the lowest -with schist - type mineralization. Because of considerable depth of occurence (700-1200 m) further explorations both regional and detailed based exclusively on drilling operations are unrealistic. To direct properly the further explorations the use of highly resolution reflection seismic survey to prospect the carbonate zones occuring in the uranium - bearing formation is proposed. According to the author these zones are also connected indirectly with the occurence of uranium - mineralization zones. The paper presents empirie and theoretical circumstances on base of which the above hypothesis is set forth.
