Abstract

DETERIORATION OF THE SUDETIC UPPER CRETACEOUS SANDSTONES DUE TO ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION IN THE WROCLAW MONUMENTS Summary The petrographic features of sandstones of the studied 10 monuments, situated in the center of Wroclaw, are similar to those of the Sudetic Upper Cretaceous formation. The black crusts observed on the surface of monuments consist mainly of gypsum, iron oxides, iron hydrooxides, air-born dusts, minerals separated from sandstone and microflora. The described processes of deterioration are similar to others known from Polish and foreign towns.
