Abstract

NEW DATA ON THE „TRIASSIC" REEF-FORMING CORALS OF STRAWCZYNEK NOWY NEAR KIELCE

Summary
A colony of coral determined as Thamnastrea silesiaca Beyrich (5) has been found in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains (Fig. I). The coral comes from a shaft driven in coquinoid limestone and was supposed to be one of the representatives of Coelenterata known in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains Triassic. Recently it has appeared however, that the colony belongs to Platycoenia tarbellensis Chevalier 1961, known of the Miocene formations. The reason the coral was f o und so far away the presumable range of the Miocene Sea is not known.
It may be concluded that either the basin range was wider than is accepted presently or the coral has been transported by the continental glacier in Quaternary.
The ascertainment of the presence of Platycoenia tarbellensis Chevalier in the area of Poland widens the range of occurence of that species in Europe.
