Abstract
NATURAL COMPACTION OF SANDS IN SELECTED UNDERGROUND LINE SECTIONS
Summary
The paper presents results of studies of natural compaction of san ds in foundation of tunnels, carried out with the use of heavy dynamic probe in two sections of the first line of the Warsaw Underground. The tests showed very high compaction of these sands in relation to their origin and stratigraphic position, as well as influence of grain-size distribution on advancement of compaction of these soils. The advantageous influence of almost optimum compaction of the sands occurring . in foundation of tunnels and at deeper levels on exploitation of the underground is emphasized.
