SHEARING STRENGTH TESTS OF ALBIAN SANDS FROM THE LUBLIN COAL BASIN
Summary
The paper presents results of trfaxial compression tests of Albian sands. The samples were taken in the frozen state at the depth of 600 m below terrain surface in one of mines in the Lublin Coal Basin. The strength studies involved tests with loading applied in traditional way (i.e. by increasing vertical loading under conditions of constant horizontal stress and with or without drainage) and those made under conditions of increase of pore water pressure with the ratio of major stresses remaining constant. The latter scheme of loading was recognized as the most appropriate and reliable in modelling the influence of waters in the course of defreezing the rock massif.
