RELIEF AND QUATERNARY SEDIMENTS IN THE PIĘĆ STAWÓW POLSKICH VALLEY (WYSOKIE TATRY RANGE)

Summary
The Pięciu Stawów Polskich Valley (1600-2100 m a.s.l.) has been firstly initiated by the Upper Pliocene and Protopleistocene erosive-denudation processes and then, transformed by the Pleistocene glaciers. Its present characteristics in mainly due to glacial erosion and afterwards, accumulation during the last (Wisła = Wurm) Glaciation. During the maximum of this glaciation (about 20,000 years ago) the Pięciu Stawów Polskich Valley formed the area of snow-firn accumulation that fed the glacial tongues, running as far as the Białka Valley. The phasal (I-IV) retreat of these tongues favoured a development of four end-morainic zones in the Pięciu Stawów Polskich Valley, accompanied by widespread glacial landforms and sediments (Fig. 1). The earliest phase is connected with the Oldest Dryas and the latest one with the Boreal Period (Fig. 7). During the Little lee Age (600-100 years ago) the col rock glaciers developed.
