Terrany tektonostratygraficzne - definicja, geneza, konsekwencje geologiczne
Abstract
TECTONOSTRATIGRAPHIC TERRAINES, THEIR DEFINITION, ORIGIN AND GEOLOGIC CONSEQUENCES Summary This is a review paper concerning the problems of tectonostratigraphic terranes. Their definition is given, their origin as the analogues of modern oceanic plateaus, ridges and arcs, their basic features, methods of recognition, as well as the geological implications of the collage tectonics are shortly discussed. Being the outgrowth of plate tectonics, the idea of terranes changed fundamentally the concept of continental accretion and the subdivision of orogens into principal types. Cordilleran orogen in a new sense is no longer a result of the head-on subduction and collision. It is a cluster of terranes assembled in a complicated conditions of transpressional, strike-slip and transtensional stresses. The connection between both the concept of terranes and of strike-slip orogenes is stressed, and the problem of microplate incorporation in the terrane tectonics is mentioned. In Poland, the collage interpretation of the Sudetes Mts. is claimed to be probable and should be tested. The subsurface identification of terranes is severely constrained by many methodological deficiencies, and should be treated with extreme caution.Downloads
