Abstract

STRUCTURE AND ORIGIN OF BROONCKITE Summary Amidst the zinc minerals of the Olkusz Zn-Pb ore deposits, broonckite and particularly its cryptocrystalline and microcrystalline powder variants, occupy an exceptional place if taking into account a morphology of ore bodies, inner sedimentary structure or position in mineral succession and genetic location in a deposit amidst other mineral forms. SEM photos indicated that white powder and apparently amorphous broonckite bodies are composed of idiomorphic crystal species of sphalerite, from tenth parts to several micrometers in size. Isotopic investigations that indicate a light sulphur in broonckite determine a necessary bi-solutional genetic interpretation of this variant of zinc minerals.
