Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF PROSPECTING IDEAS FOR THE EARLY PALEOZOIC COMPLEX OF THE PRECAMBRIAN PLATFORM

Summary
The first research boreholes done after the war by the Geological Institute in the Precambrian Platform noted within the Early Paleozoic complex the reservoir rocks and symptoms of bitumens. Such results initiated further research in the Precambrian Platform. It started in the zones where the Early Paleozoic sediments pinch out and with time the exploration moved towards deeper zones of the platform. At first, besides the sandy beds of the Cambrian, the Ordovician limestones and crumbly limestones of the Lower Silurian have been also considered for the prospecting ones. Afterwards this idea was abandoned due to slightly favorable reservoir conditions.
An attempt to delimit a zone with optimal prospecting conditions was undertaken within the Polish fragment of the platform, independently on a type of trap. The Łeba Elevation with a small oil deposit Żarnowiec-Dębki, the Olsztyn Ridge without a drilling documentation yet and the area Siedliska-Hrubieszów in the south seem to be the most interesting zones within the analyzed region.
