Abstract

THERMAL ANOMALIES ABOVE CONTACT OF THE PIENINY KLIPPEN BELT WITH PODHALE FLYSCH Summary The results of geothermal measurements carried out in the contact zone of the Pieniny Klippen Belt and Podhale Flysch are discussed. The surveys showed presence of high positive temperature anomalies genetically related to the contact zone. The line of strike of fault zones, as determined on the basis of geothermal measurements, appears correlatable with that previously drawn on the basis of studies carried out with the use of other methods. Amplitudes of temperature anomalies recorded in the studied section are up to 2°C. The record of high positive anomalies in the summer time suggests activity of an additional mechanism of heat transport in the contact zone, more effective than that of thermal conductivity. Taking into account the latest data on occurrence of thermal waters in the Podhale Basin it may be inferred that the mechanism may be connected with ascension of hot waters from large depths.
