Abstract
THE INTERESTET OF JAN SAMSONOWICZ IN THE SYLURIAN SYSTEM
Summary
The interests of J. Samsonowicz in the Silurian system, connected with his studies on the Paleozoic of Volhynia and Holy Cross Mts, are discussed. It should be noted that his works on stratigraphy of the Silurian were rather fragmentary in character, especially in comparison with those concerning the Cambrian. Nevertheless, they appear rather pioneer in character, greatly contributing to the knowledge of that system in Poland. The works also reflect insight, accuracy, conscientiousness and competence, that is typical features of personality of Jan Samsonowicz, and not much could be changed in the course of subsequent reinterpretations.
