Abstract

PHASES OF DEPOSITION OF THE MAIN DOLOMITE (ZECHSTEIN) OF NW POLAND

Summary
The post-Hercynian Sławków Graben of Southern Poland, was filled with typical continental molasse assemblage. Freshwater carbonates, occurring in the southern part of the basin, are composed of travertines, lacustrines and palustrine limestones, deposited in a spring-fed oasis basin.
Stable isotopes composition (δ18O, δ13C) of these rocks was used for paleoclimatic reconstructions. Periodic shifts in δ18O value is ascribed to the season temperature variation, with more arid, hot season (summer) and more fresh one (winter).
The mean annual temperature was probably as much 17-25°C. The observed 6-7 year cycle was probably the result of changes in rainfall amount.
