KARST TERMINOLOGY IN THE OPEN PIT MINING
Summary
Barren karst filling deposits encountered in open pits of carbonate and gypsum rock deposits are commonly, but uncorrectly classified as waste or deposit losts. They should be considered as overburden and classified as external or true overburden in the case of the rock overlaying the deposit, and internal overburden in the case of selectively mined barren interlayers or karst filling rocks within the deposit. The mode of karst occurrence within the Borków-Chwałowice gypsum deposit and its impact on mining was presented (Miocene, south of the Holy Cross Mts.
