Abstract

STRUCTURAL UNITS OF THE OUTER CARPATHIANS BETWEEN THE SOŁA AND DUNAJEC RIVERS (SOUTHERN POLAND).

Summary.
The Cretaceous–lower Miocene flysch of the Skole unit reaches the margin of the Carpathians near Brzesko. The upper part of this unit appears again near Wadowice where was described as the “outer flysch”. In the Sub-Silesian unit, the Węglówka succession and the outer-more Frydek succession were identified. The latter reveals some common features with the Skole succession. Moreover, the Obidowa–Słopnice unit (OS), i.e. the Mszana Dolna unit, shows features of the Skole unit—thus forming its extension. The OS unit obliquely reaches the Pieniny Klippen Belt (PKB) and seems to have conjecturally been identified in the borehole NT1 profile and in the Peri-Pieninian zone (Figs. 1, 2). The Stronie tectonic zone of the Silesian unit (recognized under the Magura unit) shows a reduced tectonic profile. These are mainly Lower Cretaceous and Oligocene deposits. The Grybów unit is a part of the Dukla succession reduced to Senonian and Oligocene or to Eocene and Oligocene flysch. The OS unit and the axial zone of the Carpathian gravity low are oblique to the sub-units of the Magura nappe, the PKB and also to the Inner Carpathians. The intra-formational sole thrust (base of the Silesian and Dukla units, and PKB deposits) and the younger thrust (base of the Grybów and the Magura units, tectonic reduction of the Stronie zone and the Grybów unit) were identified.
