Abstract
Lithology, fauna, stratigraphy and palaeogeography of the Permian in the fore-Sudetic monocline
Abstract
The lithology and microfauna of the Permian deposits in the fore-Sudetic monocline are described in detail. The stratigraphic and paleogeographic problems of that area are discussed, too. The stratigraphic division of the Rotliegendes has been based on the lithology, two stages, the lower and the upper, have been distinguished.
The division into stages of the Zechstein in a modified form is based on biostratigraphic suggestions, a division into cyclothems is given, too. The main attention is devoted to the fauna. This is represented by numerous bryozoans, brachiopods and pelecypods, while rare phyllopods occur in deposits of the Lower Rotliegendes.
Two rock series of the Permian formation occur in the fore-Sudetic monocline, the Lower Permian - Rotliegendes, and the Upper Permian - the Zechstein (Table 1).
The Permian sediments in the fore-Sudetic monocline are covered by a thick mantle of Mesozoic and Cenozoic deposits from several hundred to some 2,000 m in thickness. Borehole cores were the basic material in the elaboration of the above problem, also fragmentary rock samples from the boreholes.
