Abstract

HYDROGEOLOGICAL MODELS AS A HELPFUL TOOL IN SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT ISSUES

The possible ways of spatial development within the seaside districts of Gdańsk have been discussed for the last several years. Stakeholders and inhabitants prefer tourism, housing and service functions, but planned objects can affect groundwater. The authors used a numerical modelling approach to acquire reliable information about the possible impact on groundwater. This paper describes construction of a mathematical model of groundwater flow and transport of contaminants, which helped to formulate the conditions for locating construction projects in the coastal zone of the Baltic Sea.
