Abstract

THE IMPACT OF WATER USE PATTERN ON THE CONTENT OF Fe, Al, Zn, Pb AT SELECTED CONSUMER’S TAPS IN SOUTHERN KRAKÓW

Abstract. Analysis of the impact of water use pattern on the physicochemical composition of the water at selected consumers’ homes was conducted, as the Raba River is the main source of water for a large part of Kraków and many villages around. Samples were taken at two water draw-off points, i.e. at taps of detached houses located on the southern outskirts of the city of Kraków. Water samples for the analysis were taken three times (in 2009, 2012 and early 2013). The studies of physicochemical composition of the water sampled in a daily cycle at different time intervals showed a variability in the content of Fe, Al, Zn and Pb. In general, the quality of water consumed by the customers at these points was within the acceptable limits for water intended for human consumption. However, after a period of stagnation there was a temporary increase in the concentration of iron and aluminium. All samples taken show the impact of water use pattern on the total iron content. No such dependence has been observed in the case of the other components. One of the factors affecting the physicochemical nature of the water supplied to the consumers may be the amount of water consumption as well as the material from which the different network systems have been made.
