Abstract

WATER ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN THE AREA OF ZIELONA INDUSTRIAL WASTE SITE IN THE “ZACHEM” CHEMICAL PLANT, BYDGOSZCZ (POLAND)

Abstract. Industrial waste site Zielona, located on the area of Chemical Plant “Zachem” in Bydgoszcz, is an important source pollution for water environment. Groundwater in the outflow flux from waste site are highly polluted with TDS values up to 19 g/dm3. In the examined groundwater samples the concentration reached the highest values of chlorides (11 g/dm3), sulfates (8 g/dm3), sodium (4 g/dm3) and calcium (3 g/dm3). In addition selected trace elements, mainly iron and manganese, are observed in concentrations level up to a few hundreds mg/dm3 (Fe – 672.73 mg/dm3;Mn – 15.36 mg/dm3). Industrial waste site Zielona is an interesting object from the scientific point of view due to co-existence of non-organic and organic pollutants and interactions among these substances. In this paper the author describes the non-organic contamination risks. There are ongoing studies of organic pollutants.
