Abstract
NEW DATA ON THE CONCENTRATIONS OF NATURAL RADIONUCLIDES IN THE WATER ENVIRONMENT OF THE KOWARY REGION (SUDETES MOUNTAINS, WEST POLAND)
Abstract. This paper presents the newly measured concentrations of natural radionuclides (238U, 234U, 226Ra, 228Ra and 222Ra) in water samples collected from old mining galleries (adits), the Jedlica River and streams and from some water intakes (shallow supply wells) near the town of Kowary. The study area is a region of the occurrence of polimetallic and uranium ores. The research results indicate that the radioactive influence of the old mining galleries on the water in the streams and Jedlica River are still clearly observed. In some water samples the concentrations of the radioactive elements are very high, so it can be a potential hazard to the human health.
