Abstract

The Pokutie Carpathians

This geological essay about the Pokutie Carpathians is concerned with the part of the Eastern Carpathian chain lying between the upper tributary of the river Prut and the river Czeremosz at the Bukowina frontier. In this tertiary there emerges one of the depth elements of the Carpathians, that is one of those which farther on the NW are partly, or·completely, covered by the overthrust Border Carpathians e. g; in Bitków and Borysław. We may say that a thorough geologic study of the Pokutie Carpathians gives us the key to a better understanding of the structure of·the whole East Carpathian chain.
