Abstract

The geology of the Stoły massif in West Tatras

The Stoły is a small massif lying north of Mt. Kominy TyIkowe in West Tatra. The Czerwone Wierchy fold (a digitation of the Organy) can be seen on the slopes of Stoły above the Kościeliska Valley and the Zabijak gully, while the crest of Stoły is built of lower sub-tatric nappe rocks. The northward bend of the Organy digitation, the so called Mała Łąka bend, is observable over a small sector of the top part of this digitation. The same tectonic element, far better developed, occurs on the right side of the Kościeliska Valley. The Czerwone Wierchy fold terminates west of the Stoły massif where it is replaced by the independent Świerkule unit.
