Abstract

SOME REMARKS ON THE STRUCTURAL EVOLUTION OF THE SUDETES

The writer presents his opinion about the principal structuraI features of the Sudetes, interpreted as a young physiographic unit. He gives an outline of the regional subdivision of these mountains, based on effects of the younger crustal movements, characterized by a great vertical component. These great regional units are mostly heterogenous in character. As a rule, however, they are composed of fragments of different homogenous structures, belonging often to some different series of some different orogenic periods. The stratigraphy of the metamorphic series being in the Sudetes rather uncertain and not yet adequately clarified, the tectonic development of the older structures is often obscure in essential details, or even controversial. The writer gives also a brief and preliminary description and interpretation of his microstructural field studies in the Kaczawa Mts. (Bober-Katzbachgebirge), and in the Śnieżnik Group (Glatzer-Schneegebirge), as far as these studies concern the lineation phenomena in the metamorphic series
