Abstract

BEACH CUSPS ON THE POLISH COAST OF THE BALTICBeach cusps have been observed along the Baltic shore between Świnoujście and Gdańsk, also on the southern shores of the Wolin island. Since 1958 as many as 70 groups of beach cusps have been registered by the writer. The most interesting ones are listed in chart 1. On the basis of their appearance and mode of formation several types have been distinguished among these strongly varied groups. The chief types of beach cusps are those occurring on beaches without a beach ridge and cusps built on the slopes of beach ridges. These two types have been subdivided. Some of these subordinate groups, for example cusps extending to the land-facing side of the beach ridge, also cusps (accumulative) built up together with the beach ridge, have never before been described in the literature accessible to the writer. The origin of beach cusps is discussed and a short review is given of the relevant literature.
