Abstract

THE LITHOLOGY OF THE JURASSlC CARBONATE ROCKS (SOUTHEASTERN MARGIN OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS., POLAND)

The results are reported of lithological investigations of the Jurassic (Callovian-Kimeridgian) deposits between Tokarnia and Chmielnik, in the SE margin of the Holy Cross Mts. The sediments here are facially strongly differentiated as is shown in many synthetic profiles of the various tectonic units. Microscopic and chemical studies reliably indicate that the calcite carbonate content of the sediments here considered cannot be correlated with the origin of the rock material. The chemical composition variability is controlled solely by the intermittent influence of the land. The physical properties of the deposits suggest the varying degree of their lithification which is not connected with the structural development. The data thus obtained permit a number of conclusions concerning conditions of sedimentation, diagenetic changes and palaeogeographic situation at that time.
