SMALLSCALE RIPPLES IN OFFSHORE OF THE SOUTHERN BALTIC SEA

The offshore smallscale ripples of the Baltic Sea have been studied by diving. A description is given of the symmetrical wave ripples, asymmetrical wave ripples, interference ripples, rhomboid ripples and current ripples. This is the first record of the presence at the current ripples within the offshore area of a tideless sea. Changes in the position of ripples under varying conditions of waving are discussed. Two zones, one deeper, the other sallower, have been differentiated in the offshore, as suggested by the ripples. A comparison is made at the ripples here described with the smallscale ripples of the tidal flat areas.
